RCG-007-04: Pharmaceutical Manufacturing
(11-1-04 to 12-31-05)
Drs. Michael Jay and Eric Grulke from the University of
Kentucky have teamed together to pursue the development of a
center that will improve the manufacturing process of
pharmaceuticals. Through the use of sensors to create
localized control of various steps of the process, the
institute’s success will serve to lower drug costs and
increase the ability to vary the final product. An
interdepartmental effort will be employed for this project
combining faculty from pharmaceutical sciences, chemistry,
chemical engineering and electrical engineering, as well as
UK’s Center for Pharmaceutical Science & Technology,
Analytical Spectroscopy Research Group, Center for
Computational Sciences, Mass Spectrometry Facility, Center
for Manufacturing, and Center for Visualization and Virtual
Environments. The team was awarded $20,000 for the project.
